Project Updates and Progress - March 2023

In 2023, the Reimagining Mataura Project is focusing on four key workstreams. These are,

  1. Site-specific projects to test and trial river system improvement works within the catchment.
  2. Pulling together data and information from across the catchment and identifying where there are gaps.
  3. Developing case studies to support wetland establishment within the catchment and create a framework to support the decision-making process to do so.
  4. Having an engagement schedule and approach that allows us to collaborate and engage with all stakeholder groups across industry, agency, and community.

One of the critical areas we are focusing on early this year is getting small-scale site-specific projects underway within the Mataura catchment. We are currently scoping and preparing several projects to achieve this.

The priority site is currently at Cattle Flat, where we are working alongside a local landowner to develop and trial river improvement works. Other sites of interest are beginning to be identified, but the details of which are still being discussed.
